Alpine Scramble - Paddy-Go-Easy North Peak

A very enjoyable fall scramble with larches at their peak, fun rock, expansive vistas, and good company.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • There is a very nice public bathroom in Roslyn with running water and heat (!) located at Pioneer Park (W. Washington Ave and N. 3rd St).  At 1-1/2 hours from Seattle it serves as a perfect pit stop.

The 11 miles of gravel road to the trailhead is in good shape but seems to take forever. There is no water in the Scatter Creek crossing this time of year.

The trailhead is signed ("Paddy-Go-Easy Trailhead") and hard to miss. The trail itself is in good shape, with a few muddy patches where the trail crosses drainages, and several blowdowns, none of which is difficult to negotiate. The morning ascent was in the shade and pleasantly cool and sunny and warm for the afternoon descent.

The route from the pass is fairly straightforward with a boot path most of the way, although it's pretty faint in places. The approach to the peak is from the north and there's nothing too difficult if one is on route; if the scrambling seems difficult, head further right.

Quick and dirty:

TH to Pass: ~ 2 hours with plenty of time for botanizing and breaks

Pass to Paddy-Go-North peak ~ 1 hour

Peak to Sprite Lake overlook and back to pass:  ~1-1/2 hours

Pass to TH : 1-1/2 hours
