Alpine Scramble - Mount Si

An after worker scramble of Mount Si.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

We took advantage of a good weather day in June and the long daylight hours to do this as an after-work scramble. Our plan was to meet at the Mount Si trailhead at 4:00 PM. It took me almost 1 hour and 20 minutes to get there from downtown Seattle—so plan to leave earlier than you think you need to!

After about 2 hours and 15 minutes of hiking, we arrived at the base of the Haystack. We split into two groups for the scramble to minimize rockfall risk. But I found most of the route fairly solid, with not much loose rock—likely due to how much traffic Mount Si receives.

The scramble felt steeper than I remembered, but everyone handled it without any issues. We spent about 10 minutes at the summit, we were completely in the clouds and it felt chilly!

The downclimb was also uneventful. We made it back to the car by 9:15 PM, just in time to catch the last of the daylight.
