Alpine Scramble - Meany Crest

Great route with wonderful views.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Snow just past the bridge at Frying Pan Creek.

We departed the trail head at 8:00 a.m.  The trail is straightforward and in good condition with no issues to the bridge at Frying Pan Creek.  After leaving the bridge, snow was encountered, so we put our helmets on and took out the ice axes.  And were doing some route finding.  Henry Romer had been on this trail many times, so he was able to find the switchbacks and get us to Summerland.  The composting toilet was open and usable (it needed some servicing).  After that  we scrambled through the snow to the tree line and headed up to the crest.  Snow was starting to soften on the way up which was great for ascending and made for a great descent.  Some people ended up glissading down, which was very cold on the bum.  This was a mentored lead, which went extremely well.  He handled everything thoroughly and professionally.  This was a very successful trip.  I highly recommend him as a leader.
