Alpine Scramble - Goat Mountain (Mount Baker)

A long slog to a short, but interesting scramble involving some snow, loose rock and good rock.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • First 1/3 of trail is excellent, next third is rough and poorly maintained and the final section is overgrown and very steep.  Be prepared to transit snow on the west side of the false and real summits and in the bowl between them.  Route is either to traverse the west side of the false summit into the snow bowl or continue on the trail over the false summit to a low spot between the false summit and another high point.  From here an easy drop north into the snow bowl.  Ascend the SE ridge.  Loose rock on lower section, but not too steep.  Then good rock.

Great weather.  No bugs.  Excellent group of new scramblers.  10 hours with lots of breaks and 30 minutes on the summit, 4,450 feet and 10 miles.
