Trip Report

Alpine Scramble - Boulder Ridge/East Shoulder (Olympics)

A gorgeous fall day in the open and expansive high country of the NE Olympic Mountains. Grand vistas in all directions.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Fragments of snow from several weeks ago, with a few slabs of ice on the trail approaching Marmot Pass.  We brought micro-spikes, but did not use them.

Perfect fall weather with chilly conditions on northern aspects, yet toasty/bone warming sun to the south (when the wind stopped blowing ;).  Lots of interesting rock formations, with an interesting perspective of Warrior and Constance:

For this ~15 mile, ~5000’ elevation gain trip the total time was 9.5 hours (5 hours up, half an hour on the summit, 4 hours down).  Photos from this and other trips to this venue can be seen here.
