Alpine Scramble - Bearhead & East Bearhead Mountains

A nice dry and somewhat foggy day for a 4th of July hike and scramble. A flag greeted us atop Bearhead Peak.

  • Road recommended for high clearance only
  • 3 downed trees on the trail to Bearhead but easily passable.  The trail to East Bearhead (Carbon Trail) is typically not maintained.

I thought the "unmaintained" Carbon Trail running east of the turnoff to the former lookout site was one of the nicest stretches of trail I have seen in a long time. Little flowers and soft duff made for easy walking, down through some lovely meadows with a sweet creek flowing, across a bit of talus for some views. It was the highlight of our day on the Bearheads.
