After-School Program Day - Pathfinders - Mountaineers Seattle Program Center

During the first 20 minutes of the program, we (the instructors) led a game of banana tag. Two of the participants collided into one another, and one fell to the ground and hit her head again.

She was noticeably shaken up physically. Her bubbly and loud personality suddenly turned stoic and dazed. I, Julia, performed a brief exam with the student to detect any early signs of a concussion. The participant did not lose consciousness and was talking fine. Her vision was normal, and her pain was minimal. A few minutes later, the student started making remarks such as "not remembering" and mentioning that she "had a dream."

In lieu of being overly cautious, we did call the participant's parents, and the student was picked up from the activity.
