Advanced CHS 1 Hike - Coyote Wall

Beautiful hike along basalt cliffs overlooking the Columbia River Gorge.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The lower section of Coyote Wall is called the labyrinth for a reason, the trails twist and connect and not a single junction is signed. Once you get above the labyrinth though the views open up and the trails are easier to follow. The better map is one off the US Forest Service website for the area.

Started out early to avoid most of the blazing sun as most of the trail is exposed. Wandered around the labyrinth area before joining the trail leading up Coyote Wall. The views of the gorge and Mt Hood are spectacular. We traversed Atwood Rd and connected to Catherine Creek Natural Area. Next time we'll park a car at each trailhead. Our plan was to loop back around to the Coyote Wall trailhead but the trail off Catherine Creek looked to head straight down the cliff.
