Windy Mountain
A challenging winter scramble trip from Scenic, north of Highway 2 and west of Stevens Pass. It's 3 miles round trip and 3,200 feet of elevation gain.
getting there
Drive SR 2 to Scenic a few miles west of Stevens Pass. The road into Scenic is usually plowed across the railroad tracks south of the highway.
approach & ascent
Cross the highway carefully, then head up the south ridge of Windy Mountain. You'll encounter some brush, so it's best to go when there is plenty of snow cover. When you get to the Iron Goat Trail at 2,940 ft, it can be difficult to get above the old railroad bed. Travel east or west until you find a better spot. Continue generally up the fall line to the summit.
