Vance Creek Viaduct Loop

Bikepack a moderate 39 mile loop with 2,890 feet of elevation gain in the Olympic National Forest with an overnight at Brown Creek Campground. Ride on historic, secluded gravel logging roads, cross the Skokomish River on the 375-foot High Steel Bridge, the highest arch bridge in Washington, stop at Lake Cushman for a swim and the views, and visit Spider Lake to rest after a long climb. It's also know as the Olympic Bridges Overnight.

Getting There

From US-101 ~25 miles west of Olympia turn Left (west) onto W Skokomish Rd. In 5.6 miles, stay straight to continue on Govey Rd, and in 1.8 miles continue straight on Forest Road 23. Reach the Vance Creek Viaduct Trailhead in 1 mile.

On the Trail

It is best to travel counterclockwise. The first leg of the route  follows  Forest Road 2340 and passes West Lake and proceeds over the High Steel Bridge 375 feet over the Skokomish River. The route continues to Lake Cushman, a perfect spot for views, lunch and swimming. Then there is a climb to Brown Creek Campground (first come, first served) along the South Fork Skokomish River. There is a long climb leaving Brown Creek Campground to Spider Lake which offers a great opportunity for a snack break. After a couple more climbs enjoy the rolling decent back to the Vance Creek Viaduct Trailhead.
