Trout Lake & Windy Pass

Drive US-2 to the west end of Levenworth, turn south onto Icicle Creek Road, and continue to Rock Island Campground near its end (2,800 ft).

11.5 miles round trip with 2,000 feet of elevation gain

Hike Jack Creek Trail No. 1588 1.5 miles to a junction at 3,400 ft. Turn left at the junction onto Trout Creek Trail No. 1555.  At 3.7 miles and 4,600 ft is a junction with the Eightmile Trail to Windy Gap.  To reach Trout Lake turn right and hike 0.5 mile.  Campsites and water are available at Trout Lake (4,800 ft).

14 miles round trip with 3,800 feet of elevation gain

Hike Jack Creek Trail No. 1588 3.5 miles to a junction at 3,500 ft.  Turn left and hike 2.0 miles steeply to a saddle on Jack Ridge at 5,700 ft. Descend 900 feet to Trout Lake. Campsites and water are available at the lake (4,800 ft). Return the way you came or via the Trout Lake Trail.

5.6 miles round trip with 2,800 feet of elevation gain from Trout Lake

For higher exploration, backtrack 0.5 mile from Trout Lake to the junction with the Eightmile Trail. Turn right and hike 2.5 miles and 2,400 feet of elevation gain to Windy Pass at 7,200 ft, the edge of the Enchantments Eightmile Permit Zone.  From Windy Pass consider descending to Little Lake Caroline and Lake Caroline or following the ridge towards Cashmere Mountain, a scramble.
