Trinity Alps

The Trinity Alps are a designation wilderness area and mountain range in the far north of California, due west of Redding. It consists of stark granite peaks and high alpine lakes. Numerous trails and trailheads offer a multitude of recreation options including: hiking, backpacking, scambling and climbing.

Many backpacking itineraries are available here from a simple one-night trip to Canyon Creek or Caribou Lakes to a week-long traverse of the range. The forty mile traverse route begins at Big Flat TH and ends at Granite Peak TH.  There are many sides trips available as well. The highest peak in range--Thompson peak is just under 9,000'.  Caribou Lake Basin, Emerald and Sapphire Lakes and the Four Lakes Loop are all popular destinations.  Travel may be available as early as June, but in most years the snow melts out by July.
