Teanaway Butte

A easy hike on a boot path in summer to a former fire lookout near Cle Elum. In winter there are a few good snowshoe and winter scramble trips. Enjoy views of Mount Stuart, the Enchantments, most of the higher Teanaway summits, and on a clear day Mount Rainier.

Getting There

From SR-970 turn onto Teanaway River Road bearing right as it becomes North Fork Teanaway River Road. Continue to the Sno-Park just past the 29 Pines Campground (2,650 ft). In summer, just past the 29 Pines camping area merge left onto Forest Road 9701 and drive ~3 miles to its end. The boot path to Teanaway Butte is on  the left (3,600 ft).

On the Trail

Hike the boot path to the summit of Teanaway Butte (4,769 ft). It's ~1 mile and 1,000 feet of elevation gain.

Snowshoe Route

Camp Lake via Rye Creek

5.6 miles, 250 feet of elevation gain

Follow snow-covered forest roads to Camp Lake in the Teanaway Community Forest. From 29 Pines Sno-Park, snowshoe Forest Road 9701 for ~0.5 mile and cross the North Fork Teanaway River on a bridge. Close to the bridge reach a signed intersection for Rye Creek. Turn left and soon cross another small stream. At the junction turn left onto another road, pass through a gate, and turn left again—this is the road to Camp Lake. Continue ~0.8 mile where the road curves to the right and then parallels Rye Creek. Proceed for 1.5 miles to Camp Lake (2,740 ft | 47.31363, -120.88111).

Winter Scramble Routes

Teanaway Butte (4,769 ft) and Tarzan Butte (4,385 ft)

Travel Jungle Creek Road (Forest Road 9701) from the Sno-Park. Leave it and scramble to the summit of Teanaway Butte and/or Tarzan Peak.
