Squires Lake & Alger Alp

Getting There

Squires Lake Park (North)

Take Exit 242 off of I-5 and turn east onto Nulle Road which becomes Old Highway 99. In 0.8 miles turn left into Squires Lake Park and the trailhead.

Alger Cain Lake Road (South)

Take Exit 240 off of I-5 and turn east onto Lake Samish Road. At its intersection with Old Highway 99 it becomes Alger Cain Lake Road. Continue 0.2 mile on Alger Cain Lake Road to the trailhead. Park on the shoulder on either side of the road just past the trailhead and before a bridge. About ten cars can park here.

On the Trail

Squires Lake

up to 2 miles and 400 feet of elevation gain, 650 ft high point

Hike the network of loop trails that surround Squires Lake, all of which are great for kids.

Alger Alp/South Route

4.2 miles round trip, 1,070 feet of elevation gain, 1,280 ft high point

Hike from the trailhead on Alger Cain Lake Road on part of the Pacific Northwest Trail to the summit of Alger Alp with views of Squires Lake, Lake Samish, and Lake Whatcom.

Alger Alp/North Route

5.0 miles round trip, 1,000 feet of elevation gain, 1,280 ft high point

Hike from the trailhead at Squires Lake to the summit of Alger Alp, partially on the Pacific Northwest Trail. Enjoy views of Squires Lake, Lake Samish, and Lake Whatcom.

Alger Alp One-Way

4.6 miles one-way, 1,000 feet of elevation gain, 1,280 ft high point

Set up  a car shuttle with one car at each trailhead and hike one-way over Alger Alp either direction. Take a break on the summit to enjoy views of Squires Lake, Lake Samish, and Lake Whatcom.
