Rampart Vista

Snowshoe up the south end of Rampart Ridge above the east shores of Keechelus Lake. Rampart Vista is the name given to the highest spot just below the south facing cliffs of Rampart Mountain. The route follows logging roads and some cross country.

getting there

Drive I-90 to Exit 54, then take the frontage road on the north side of the freeway which turns into Forest Road 4832.  Follow this road to where it is blocked just past Gold Creek.

snowshoe route

Snowshoe along the Forest Road 4832 south until you cross Rocky Run creek on a big bridge.  Just after the creek, ascend southeast through the forest north of the cabins you see just after leaving the road. Aim for the right-hand hairpin turn in the road at 2,850 ft.  Rejoin the road and follow it past the next left-hand hairpin turn and up to the junction at 3,300 ft.  Stay left and snowshoe north on Forest Road 136 about 1.3 miles to a partially abandoned road on the left that descends a bit and crosses Rocky Run creek at ~3,500 ft. Follow this road system and/or the ridges up to the big bench at 4,900 ft.
