Rainier View Trail

Great hike between June-September for wildflowers and maybe a mountain goat or marmot. Good for photographing wildflowers.

getting there

From SR 410, 31 miles east of Enumclaw, turn north onto Forest Road 7174 (Corral Pass Road). Drive 6.7 miles to the Corral Pass and the Rainier View Trailhead (5,700 ft), just before the entrance to Corral Pass Campground.

on the trail

From the Corral Pass parking lot walk through the campground and then through a thin stand of alpine trees. Continue on a short step section with one switchback and then hike through a meadow and break out on top of the northwest ridge of Castle Mountain. After crossing a bridge, hike along a spur ridge with great views of Castle Mountains summit. Continuing on eventually brings you to a junction. The right fork heads for the Castle Mountain summit; it's a good side trip if you have the time and don't mind a short scramble to reach the summit. Take the left fork to reach a phlox-covered knob with great views of Mount Rainier.

notes

  • Expect to see glacier lilies in early July along with snow patches can linger well into early July too.
