Putrid Pete's Peak

Named after Pete Schoening, Putrid Pete's Peak (aka P3) is a moderate scramble of 5 miles and 3,000 feet elevation gain. Wonderful views of the Snoqualmie Valley on the way up, big views of the Cascades at the summit.

Take Exit 45 off of I-90 and turn north onto Forest Road 9030. In 0.8 mile at the junction with Forest Road 9031, go straight onto Forest Road 9031. Continue 2.9 miles to the Ira Spring Trailhead (2,200 ft).

Follow the Ira Spring Trail to its first switchback (0.1 mi).  Continue straight ahead on a way trail (0.3 mi) that is hidden at first but soon opens up.  Continue on the trail as it switchbacks and steepens towards the ridge (2 mi). When you encounter a fork, always toke the one that goes up.

At around 4,000 feet the trail in the trees ends and scrambling begins. Scramble on the open slope straight up to the minor summit at 5,220 feet on the Defiance Ridge.

Mount Defiance (5,584 ft) and West Defiance (5,335 ft)are a short walk along the ridge from Putrid Pete's Peak.
