Pacific Crest Trail: Crest Horse Camp to Walupt Lake

The PCT from Crest Horse Camp to Forest Road 24 Surprise Lakes Campground to the west side of Mount Adams to Walupt Lake. In Indian Heaven Wilderness and Mount Adams Wilderness.

getting there

From I-5 south take Exit 68, US-12 E toward Morton/Yakima. Travel 62 miles on US-12, turn right on Forest Road 21, and continue for 16 miles to Forest Rd 2160. Turn left and drive 4.5 miles to Walupt Lake campground.

NOTE: You cannot get to Walupt Lake on Forest Road 23. It washed out in fall 2015.

  • Day 1: Potato Hill Road Forest Road 5603 to Riley Camp, 12.56 miles (11.76 PCT miles), 1,880 feet of elevation gain, and  895 feet of elevation loss.
    Day 2: Riley Camp to Forest Road 23, 10.42 PCT miles, 582 feet of elevation gain, and 2,476 feet of elevation loss.
