Olympic Discovery Trail

A mostly paved trail across the northern edge of the Olympic Peninsula intended for non-motorized use including walking, bicycling, and horseback riding.

The route of the Olympic Discovery Trail (ODT) traverses almost 130 miles of lowlands, bordered on the south by the Olympic Mountain Range and on the north by the Strait of Juan de Fuca. It starts in the Victorian seaport of Port Townsend and ends on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. The trail is a wide, paved pathway designed to multi user standards for bicyclists, hikers, and disabled users, with a 4’ shoulder for equestrians where appropriate.

Olympic Discovery Trail: Sound & Bay (East)

26.8 miles one-way, 1,194 feet of elevation gain, 415 ft high point

This 27-mile section of the trail runs from Port Townsend, around Discovery Bay and across the Miller Peninsula to Blyn. It's eastern most section is known as the Larry Scott Trail in honor of one of the the trail's visionaries.

Olympic Discovery Trail: River & Prairie (East Central)

26.4 miles one-way, 267 feet of elevation gain, 250 ft high point

This 26-mile section of the trail runs from Blyn through Sequim, and across the Dungeness prairie to the harbor in Port Angles.

Olympic Discovery Trail: Foothills & Lakes (West Central)

31.7 miles one-way, 2,750 feet of elevation gain, 1,250 ft high point

This 32-mile section of the trail runs from Port Angeles across the Elwha River, across the coastal lowlands, and along the north shore of Lake Crescent to the top of Fairholm Hill on US 101 at its intersection with Sol Duc Hot Springs Road.

Olympic Discovery Trail: Forest & Ocean (West)

41.6 miles one-way, 613 feet of elevation gain, 1,150 ft high point

This 42-mile section of the trail This section of the trail is still UNDER CONSTRUCTION and, when complete, will run from US 101 and the Sol Duc Hot Springs Road intersection, across forests, through Forks, and along the Pacific coast to La Push.
