Old Desolate

Old Desolate is a moderate scramble of 13 miles and 4,800 feet of elevation gain (plus 11 miles of biking) in the Northern Loop of Mount Rainier National Park.

APPROACH and Notes

Carbon River Road continues to be closed due to washouts so you'll want to bike from Carbon River Road turnoff for a little over 5 miles to reach Ipsut Campground. From the Ipsut Campground, hike the Wonderland trail towards Mystic Lake.  Upon reaching Moraine Park at ~5,400 ft leave the trail and head easterly towards the summit at 7,137 ft.
