Notch Pass

A strenuous, 8.6 mile out-and-back day hike with 2,800 feet of elevation gain. The trail switchbacks up steeply through forests, over the pass in Quilcene Ridge, and down to Bark Shanty Camp.

Getting There

Drive south on US-101 to one mile south of Quilcene and turn right onto Penny Creek Road. Drive 1.5 miles to a fork, where pavement ends and bear left. Drive 0.5 mile, bear right onto unmarked Forest Road 10-010, and drive 1.4 miles to the trailhead (700 ft).

On the Trail

Hike a trail that retraces an old Native American route through a tight pass high on Quilcene Ridge.
