Methow River Whitewater Runs

This route includes about 81 miles of the Methow River consisting of the following three sections: 1) River Bend Campground to Carlton, 50 miles of class 2 to class 3, consisting of the four following sub-sections: Riverbend Campground to Mazama, 10.1 miles Mazama to Winthrop, 15.2 miles Winthrop to Twisp, 10.0 miles Twisp to Carlton, 12.9 miles 2) Carlton to Averill (McFarland Creek) access, class 2 3) Averill (at McFarland Creek) access to Pateros (Black Canyon), class 3

This long section of river has multiple access points, where trips can either be started or stopped.

The preferred flow is between 1000 and 6000 CFS, with the higher flows becoming significantly faster and more demanding of good river reading skills and boat handling skills. There is always the chance for wood hazards, especially in the upper areas of the river.
