K9 (Point 6242)

A scramble near Stevens Pass in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. It's on the Wenatchee Mountains "Back Court" Top 100.

Getting There

Drive US-2 13.2 miles east of Skykomish. Turn right off US-2 onto Forest Road 6095 at the big sweeping left-hand turn just before the US-2 changes to four lanes and starts the final climb to Stevens Pass. Drive Forest Road 6095 for 1.5 mile, staying left at all road junctions, to the Tunnel Creek Trailhead, Trail No. 1061, (3,100 ft).

approach & ascent

Hike the Tunnel Creek Trail to where it joins the the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail). Turn right and hike about 2.2 miles to a  meadow area at ~5,200 ft. Leave the trail and travel on a boulder field toward a saddle on the southwest ridge of K9. Choose the best route through the thick bruch at the top of the boulder field, bypassing a cliff on its west side. Look for a hidden dirt gully that leads to a ridge. Ascend the gully and then follow the ridge to the summit.
