Juniper Dunes Wilderness

Hike in a trail-less wilderness of arid, sage-steppe beauty. This area is characterized by rolling sand dunes, shrubs, cactus, spring wildflowers, and the largest stands of Juniper trees in the state.

on the trail

A 7,140-acre fence enclosed area awaits exploration for those  willing to do their own navigating  and route finding.  There are no trails, and there is no water—bring your own. The entire area only varies by about 300 feet in elevation and its visual openness allows endless wandering and exploration. Spring wildflowers are a draw as is its remoteness. The numerous wildlife, camping under the Junipers and hiking through the sand are unforgettable experiences.
