Indian Racetrack Trail to Red Mountain Lookout
A challenging route with a big reward at the finish, this 6.6-mile hike gains 1,600 ft of elevation in the first half of the out-and-back route. The trailhead is located in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, about an hour north of Stevenson, Washington.
From the All Trails website: Red Mountain Lookout was first built in 1910 and renovated in 2010. On a clear day, Mount Adams, Rainier, Saint Helens, and Hood are all visible. The trail steadily climbs through dense forest, with a short descent through Race Track Lake before the final uphill segment to Red Mountain. The summit is exposed and covered in red earth, offering panoramic views.
