Harding Mountain

A challenging 15 mile scramble 5,400 feet of elevation gain to an infrequently scrambled peak in the central Alpine Lakes Wilderness.

driving directions

Take Exit 84 (Cle Elum) off of I-90 and continue to SR 903. Drive on SR 903 through to Roslyn and Ronald. At the southeast corner of Cle Elum Lake, SR 903 becomes Salmon La Sac Road.  Follow it to the Salmon La Sac Ranger Station and turn right on Forest Road 4330.  Continue ~9 mi to the Scatter Creek trailhead (3,320 ft).

approach & ascent

Hike the Scatter Creek Trail 1.8 mi to its junction with the Lake Ann Trail. Turn left and continue on the Scatter Creek Trail.  Shortly after crossing  Scatter Creek, the trail becomes hard to follow.  Look for blazed trees, flagging, and cairns as the trail meanders through meadows. Continue to Scatter Creek (aka Van Epps) Pass (6,200 ft).

From the pass, follow the Solomon Creek Trail down to ~5,500 ft. From there head north through brush and then talus to the a saddle in the southwest ridge. Follow the southwest ridge over or around the false summit to the true summit.
