getting there

From US 101 8.5 miles west of Port Angeles and jut before the Elwha River Bridge, turn south onto Olympic Host Springs Road. Drive 4 miles and turn left just after the Elwha River Ranger Station onto Whiskey Bend Road and continue another 4 miles to the road's end and trailhead (1,200 ft).

on the trail

Hike in the Elwha Valley starting from Whiskey Bend. Depart the Elwha trail and descend to Goblins Gate, where the powerful Elwha races through cliffy narrows, then hike south near the Elwha shore toward picturesque Humes Ranch and its rustic cabin. The cabin was occupied for many years in the 1940s by Olympic mountain man and cinematographer, Herb Crisler, who shot footage used in Disney's Olympic Elk movie. After Humes Ranch, ascend to the Long Ridge trail and hike it back to the Elwha trail, viewing the historic Michaels Ranch Cabin on the way back to Whiskey Bend.
