Fir Mountain
Hike 5.2 miles round trip and 2,200 feet of elevation gain to Fir Mountain in eastern Washington's Okanogan Highlands. Enjoy views through open forest of rock outcrops and surrounding mountains along the ridge. The last bit to the former lookout site is a bit of a scramble.
Getting There
Drive SR-20 to 31 miles east of Tonasket (8.5 miles west of Republic) and turn right (south) onto the Forest Road 31 (it's just across the highway form the Sweat Creek Picnic Area) and drive 0.5 mile to the trailhead (3,500 ft).
On the Trail
Hike the Fir Mountain Trail (No. 320) 2.6 miles near the top of Fir Mountain. Enjoy views through open forest of rock outcrops and the surrounding mountains. The last bit to the former lookout site is a bit of a scramble but hike back down the trail a couple of hundred feet to a nice flat spot along the ridge top with equally nice views and a good spot for a lunch or snack break.
