Circle Peak

Scramble to old lookout site northeast of Darrington in the North Cascades. It's 3 miles to the summit first through old growth forest and then switchbacks in meadows full of blueberries. The last bit on the ridge to the summit requires scrambling with exposure in the last 200 feet on a catwalk.

Getting There

Drive the Mountain Loop Highway from Darrington Forest Road 26 (Suiattle River Road). Drive 10 miles and turn right onto Forest Road 25. Drive 3.2 miles and bear right onto Forest Road 27. In 2.0 miles bear left onto Forest Road 2703 and drive 7 miles to the trailhead (4,300 ft) near the road's end.

Approach & Ascent

Hike the Circle Peak Trail 2.6 miles to near the summit of Circle Peak. Scramble the last bit to the summit. There is some exposure in the last 200 feet on a catwalk.

Notes

  • It's also possible to start form the Crystal Lake Trailhead, but that make for an 18+ mile round trip hike. There is camping at Crystal Lake.
  • It's also possible to reach the Circle Peak Trailhead from Forest Roads 23 off of the Mountain Loop Highway.
