Chewuch River: Camp Four to Five Mile Bridge (The Middle) and Five Mile Bridge to Winthrop (The Lower)

This whitewater route on the Chewuch River near Winthrop, WA., includes two sections: 1) Camp Four to Five Mile Bridge is a class 2 to class 3 run 13 miles long and 2) Five Mile Bridge to Winthrop is about 8.4 miles long and is a class 2+ run with one class 4 rapid near the end.

Camp Four to Five Mile Bridge (The Middle)

Most of the run is fast moving class 1 and 2, but there are three class 3 rapids scattered throughout. There is a diversion dam near the end of the run which if run must be done on the right at a narrow fish passage channel to avoid going over the main drop.

The preferred flow is between 800 and 2000 CFS.

Five Mile Bridge to Winthrop (The Lower)

The put in for this section is the takeout for the section upstream.

The takeout is at the town of Winthrop, WA. on the Methow River just upstream of the Hwy 20 bridge on the north side of the Methow River, here: 48.47394552532495, -120.17764091491699

This is a class 2+ run with a class 4 rapid near the end created by an old diversion dam. 

The preferred flow for this section is between 1000 and 2000 CFS.  The USGS gauge is the same as the section upstream.
