South & Middle Fork Cascade River

Hike 9-10 miles with 500-1,500 feet of elevation gain. Hike along the South Fork trails with views of the surrounding mountains and a nice spot for lunch along the river. Hike along the South Fork and then up the Middle Fork for for a more challenging hike. Both are great alternate hikes near Cascade Pass.

getting there

Drive SR 20  to Marblemount and turn east onto Cascade River Road. Continue 16 mile to  Mineral Springs Campground. In 0.7 mile at a sharp turn in the road and the junction with  gated Forest Road 1590.  Park here along the road (1,700 ft).

9 miles round trip with 500 feet of elevation gain to a high point of 2,200 ft

Start on the abandoned Forest Road 1590 and walk 1.4 miles to where the the trail begins on a bench high above the the Cascade river.  In 0.6 miles take the right fork to continue along the South Fork. The trail winds and meanders another 2.5 miles, eventually heading down to the river.

Middle Fork Cascade River

10 miles round trip with 1,500 feet of elevation gain to a high point of 3,200 ft

Start on the abandoned Forest Road  1590 and walk 1.4 miles to where the the trail begins on a bench high above the the Cascade river.  In 0.6 miles take the left fork to head up the Middle Fork. Continue 3 miles the slopes just below Cascade Peak. There is some challenging routefinding along the way.
