Bismarck Peak

A strenuous trip to a fine viewpoint in the William O. Douglas Wilderness.

getting there

Drive SR 410 to Bumping River Road (Forest Road 1800). Turn south onto Bumping River Road and continue to Deep Creek Road (Forest Road 1808). Turn left drive ~200 yards past the Mount Aix trailhead to the Pear Butte trailhead (3,700 ft).

notes

  • Old maps show a trail connection from the Pear Butte trail to the summit, but that connection no longer exists and that route is now a relatively easy scramble.
  • A much more challenging scramble is to use the Mt. Aix trail. There is a lot of rock scrambling between that trail and the summit of Bismarck.
  • Because the Pear Butte and Mount Aix trailheads are only a few hundred yards apart, this is best done as a challenging loop trip.
