Bedal Basin

A 6 mile round trip day hikes with 2,200 feet of elevation gain off the Mountain Loop Highway. The route to alpine meadows below Sloan Peak is steep and the trail sometimes obscure. It is recommended only for experienced hikers.

getting there

From SR-530 in Darrington, drive southeast on the Mountain Loop Highway for 17.2 miles. Turn left onto Forest Road 4096 and continue 3 miles to the road's end and trailhead (2,800 ft).

on the trail

Hike the Bedal Creek Trail (No. 705) for ~2.6 miles into Bedal Basin (5,000 ft). The trail gains altitude steadily, alternating between forest and avalanche tracks, and crosses Bedal Creek twice. Faint tread in some locations requires route finding. The basin is the site of Harry Bedal's cabin. Some of its remains can be found between the boulders.
