Bearjack Ridge West & East Peaks

A winter scramble in the Teanaway area.

getting there

From SR-970 turn onto Teanaway River Road bearing right as it becomes North Fork Teanaway River Road. In 12.5 miles and just before the 29 Pines Campground, park at the intersection of North Fork Teanaway River Road and  Jack Creek Road/Forest Road 9738 (2,600 ft).  Or if there is no snow drive the road as far as you can(the mileage and elevation gain estimates assume parking at the intersection).

approach & ascent

Travel the road, leaving it at ~3,000 ft (near the word "Jack" on USGS Red Top Mountain map).  Head north to the southwest ridge and ascend it, continuing as it becomes the south ridge, until it meets the east-west Bearjack Ridge. Turn left and ascend the West Peak (4,600 ft), then double back and ascend the East Peak (4,800 ft).  Neither summit is labeled on USGS Map.  From East Peak, continue southeast until reaching a southwest ridge, and follow that down to the road.  Follow road back to the cars.
