Whitewater Packraft - Umpqua River (North): Segment 2, Horseshoe Bend to Gravel Bin
This is the first day of a three day activity on the North Umpqua River in central Oregon. On this day we could run the class 2-3 section 1, or the class 3-4 section 2. Depending on participants skills and preferences.

Section 1:
This will be a casual trip at a relaxed pace. Section 1 has several challenging class 2+ or 3- rapids but is mostly class 2 or less.
Emphasis is on group cohesion, safety, and fun.
All normal Mountaineers equipment requirements apply.
Bring food and drink for a 3 to 4 hour trip.
Section 2:
This will be a casual trip at a relaxed pace. Section 2 has several challenging class 3+ or 4- rapids but is mostly class 3.
Emphasis is on group cohesion, safety, and fun.
Section 2 is a more challenging run with lots of class 3 and two or three class 3+ or 4- rapids.
All normal Mountaineers equipment requirements apply.
Bring food and drink for a 3 to 4 hour trip.
I plan to camp on the North Umpqua River, east of Roseburg Oregon, hopefully at Boulder Flat Campground.
Meet Friday at noon in order to do a paddle trip Friday afternoon.
Meet Saturday at 10 AM, and Sunday at 9:30 AM. Site to be determined.
Required Equipment
Minimum Equipment for each participant
- Packraft, with grab lines on bow and stern
- Paddle, sized for a packraft
- Life jacket, PFD Class III or better
- Whitewater helmet
- Drysuit or thick wetsuit
- Closed-toe shoes, no sandals
- Spare clothing
- Boat repair kit
- Waterproof Whistle
- Minimum Equipment for the party

- Rescue rope and throw bag, one or more as needed for the trip
- Spare paddle, one or more
