8:30 am each morning be ready to sign in at the Cornet Bay Retreat Center in Deception Pass State Park.
Trails in Deception Pass State Park need a variety of maintenance. Working with experienced Washington Trails Assoc. (WTA) crew leaders, our activities may include pruning back overgrown vegetation, replacing failing structures, and digging new paths for water to flow off the trail. We may also restore the tread by digging the trail surface to the proper width and slope as well as removing organic material, protruding rocks, and roots.
Volunteer on Saturday, Sunday or both days. Signing up for this stewardship activity is a 2-step process. After registering with the Mountaineers, you will need to also register with WTA. The trip leader will send a link that connects to a WTA form where you will enter your contact information and select which day(s) you will attend. Please note that both days are selected by default on the form. Just uncheck any day that you will not be working.
We'll be staying in the bunkhouses at Cornet Bay Retreat Center. The crew leader will send more information on lodging about a week before the work party. Our accommodations are reserved for Friday and Saturday nights. In addition, Saturday evening will feature a potluck dinner. Everyone is welcome to stay both nights and to attend the potluck whether you work one or two days.
Our hike to the project site is expected to be 1-3 miles roundtrip over hilly terrain. No experience is necessary for this work party because WTA will provide the training and tools needed. This will be a private WTA work party exclusively for Mountaineers provided we can fill each day with at least 6 volunteers. Participants will earn both a Mountaineers Stewardship badge and WTA work party credit. Come have fun and help make a difference in an iconic and popular park.
