Meet at the Kingston Marina Boat Ramp at 7:45am. This is the large parking area just west of the ferry terminal. Those arriving by ferry should be on the 7:10am ferry. From Edmonds, we will shuttle to Oyster Plant Park (near Liberty Bay Marina) in Poulsbo, about 20 minutes.
I'll try to organize the car shuttle such that those who came on the ferry can return directly with out driving to Poulsbo. This depends on enough people joining from the Kitsap size and their ability to carry boats on their cars.
From the launch at Oyster Park, we'll paddle through Liberty bay, out the entrance and take a left into Agate Passage.
I estimate launching about 9:15, 6 hours on the route, and landing about 3:15pm. Sunset is 4:50pm. The trip distance is about 13nm so we need to maintain an average pace of 2.2kt.
Currents in Agate pass max out at 2.2kt at 12:50pm. We'll pass through before max and should have a least a moderate current assist for most of our paddle.
This trip is one of the North Puget Sound Paddling Experience badge trips.
This is a winter trip. While conditions can be very good, participants should be prepared for
- Paddling in wind up to 15kt. Some upwind but most down or across the wind.
- Freezing temperatures
- Moderate rain
if there is a strong south wind, we may change the launch site to Old Man House Park, making for a shorter, downwind run.
If conditions look generally unpleasant (cold, rainy, head-winds) I'll cancel.
