Sea Kayak - Boston Harbor Vicinity

Wednesday evening paddle launching from Boston Harbor. Route to be determined at launch based on conditions and paddler experience.

  • Sea Kayak II, Sea Kayak III
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 6.0 nm
  • Maximum Wind: 12 kts
  • Maximum Waves: 1 ft
  • Maximum Currents: 1.5 kts
  • Pace: 3

Prior to departure we will select a route consistent with wind, tide and current conditions, and skill levels of paddlers.

The SK rating for this trip is in a range due to potential wind and seas. There will be a high tide of 14.6 ft at 7:34, and Dana Passage current will be about 0.8 kts at launch and dropping. As of this posting the forecast is for some significant wind at launch.  The stated maximum wind above is for steady wind.  Occasional gusts may exceed.

If winds allow for a crossing, we may try to visit one of the small inlets accessible only at high tide. If so, we may need to achieve the stated 3 mph pace for a fair portion of the trip.

Please monitor forecast in the days before the paddle to determine if anticipated conditions are within your zone of comfort.

Meet at Boston Harbor boat launch in time for prompt 6pm launch.  Discover Pass required.  Bathroom facilities on site.
