This trail is new to both leaders, so come explore a new (to us!) area. This is typically a loop hike but is closed this time of year due to Peregrine Falcon nests along part of the trail. We will hike the trail as an out and back, going about 2.5 miles to the second of two overlooks: the Nancy Russell Overlook where we plan to eat a snack and turn around. As always pack the Ten Essentials, dress for the weather, and bring plenty of water and a snack/lunch. You might want binoculars, bird and wildflower apps on your phone, and a camera.
Hike details will be sent to registered participants a few days before the hike. Expect a long day - its a long drive, and the distance and elevation gain of the hike in addition to frequent stops for photographs and wildflower viewing will keep us on the trail for about five hours. A meal or snack stop on the way home might be part of the plans for those who want to get something to eat on the way home. It appears that no parking passes are required.
