Frontcountry Trail Run - Terrace & Marshall Hill Trails

8 mile evening trail run with 2,170 feet of elevation gain through Newcastle/Cougar Mountain trails. Start at Cross Town Trail, head up to De Leo Wall Lookout, on to Far Country Lookout, turn around at Shy Bear/Fred's Railroad intersection...then back through Marshall's Hill Trail to the Water Tower. Head down the Terrace Trail, and take backroads to our starting point.

Meet at 5:50 pm at Cross Town Trail by Beit Tikvah Synagogue at 7935 136th Ave SE in Newcastle. Parking on street. Following introductions, description of route and current trail conditions, please plan to start running at 6:00 pm. There are no public bathrooms at the trail head or anywhere on the route.

We'll stick together as a group at about ~3.5-4 mph uphill until we get to the De Leo Wall Lookout, stop for a few min, then move on to the Far Country Lookout for a few more. We'll turn around where Shy Bear intersects with Fred's Railroad, then head over to the water tower. After taking a quick break, we'll head down the Terrace Trail to 144th Place SE, then take back roads to where we started. The trail is mostly narrow, so single file. Please meet at the trailhead at 5:50 pm so we can meet with introductions, discuss conditions on the trail and group goals, and start by 6 pm.

Please contact the leader before registering if you have not recently done a trail run of similar mileage and elevation gain, and have any doubt about your fitness and stamina to keep up. Also, if you are a fast runner and feel ~4-5 mph with a couple of stops along the trail is insufficient of a work-out for you, please consider if this trip is a good match for your abilities. We run as a group. 

TRAIL RUNNING UNDER COVID 19:

All participants and leaders must agree to the COVID-19 Code of Conduct before attending an in-person Mountaineers activity during our COVID-19 response. By proceeding with any of the upcoming activities you are already registered to attend, you affirm that you have reviewed The Mountaineers COVID-19 Code of Conduct and the guidance for participants and leaders available on the COVID-19 Response page, and you agree to follow this guidance during each activity. Please remove yourself from any upcoming activity if you are unable or unwilling to follow The Mountaineers guidance at the time of the program.

Also, to help ensure your safety and the safety of our fellow hikers, the leader asks that you only carpool to the trailhead with other members of your household registered for the same trip. 

All participants will need to have a face covering (mask, bandanna or muff) and hand sanitizer. Wherever possible, all group member will maintain the 6 ft minimum social distancing protocol and be ready to pull up face covering over mouth and nose when this is not possible passing others on the trail and at the trailhead. Please also bring a headlamp just in case.
