Day Hike - Willapa Hills Trail
This is a Family Hike through riparian forest in the upper Chehalis River valley on a gentle old railroad grade that has been converted by Washington State Parks to the Willapa Hills Trail. We'll start at the trailhead on Ceres Hill Road and hike eastward along the river, turning around at an overlook of the river valley.

This is a family hike with priority given to kids with adults.
- The hike is appropriate for children of all ages.
- The trail consists of packed gravel on an old railroad grade, with occasional bridge crossings on re-surfaced railroad trestles.
- The hike will be out and back, with a snack break at the turnaround point. The turnaround point will depend on the abilities and interests of the group.
- We will hike rain or shine.
Meet at 1:00 pm at the Ceres Hill Road Trailhead for the Willapa Hills Trail, west of Chehalis off of State Highway 6. A State Discover Pass is required. Specific directions will be given in a pre-Hike email. We anticipate hiking for about 3 hours.
Required Equipment
Bring basic family hiking gear appropriate for the expected weather, including:
- backpack for each adult and kid, ideally with a waist strap.
- family first aid kit.
- rain gear and warm layers for everyone in your family group.
- water and snacks.
- maps will be provided by the leader.
- binoculars and field guides as desired for wildlife and plant identification.
