Pleasant 7.4 mile hike, at a moderate pace (1.75-2 mph) with plenty of rest breaks as needed. Stops to rest by the lake, look at flowers, pick huckleberries and look at the view from the Lookout. A chance to meet and hike with your fellow Global Adventure buddies!
Here is the trip description from WTA: Thorp Mountain Lookout via Thorp Creek — Washington Trails Association
Bring lunch, sun protection, plenty of water and sturdy hiking shoes. Trekking poles will be helpful.
My goals and expectations for this trip are:
1. Safety, including staying together as a group
2. Enjoy nature and have fun
3. Respectful conversation
4. Follow Leave No Trace principles
5. Assessment of your ability to hike this distance/elevation gain/pace
Suggested carpool meet up spot: North Bend Safeway lot close to the tall Safeway/O'Reilly Auto Parts/Chase Bank sign in the parking lot. It's off I-90 exit 31.
Note: leader will be camping and meet at trailhead
Trailhead: Be there by 9am. No parking pass needed, but there is only room for a few cars.
Drive I-90 to exit 80 for Roslyn/Salmon La Sac. Turn north onto Bullfrog Road (crossing the freeway if coming from the west). Continue on this road through two roundabouts, following signs for 903.
Drive through the small town of Roslyn 13 miles from I-90, turn left onto paved French Cabin Road (Forest Road 4308). This road soon becomes gravel and washboarded - drive slowly.
It's a little more than 3 miles to a junction with FR 4312 on the right, just 1.5 miles to the parking area. There's only room for 2 or 3 cars here, so please park considerately, and be sure to not block the gate.
