Day Hike - Sugarloaf

Group decision hike! We can keep it short at 4 miles RT and 900 feet with a viewpoint or extend to 7-8 miles with a bonus around Whistle Lake. There are lots of choices and intersections so we will stick together. Optional self host lunch in Anacortes post hike.

This is a group choice hike.  We can reach a lovely viewpoint at the top of Sugarloaf, see some big trees on the way back and make it a roughly 4 mile with with 950 feet of elevation gain or we can extend to a total of 6-7 miles to include a lake. Either way there are some spots with slippery rocks on the trail that will require care and maybe some poles.  This time of year the trail can be muddy in spots.

Since there are so many intersections and choices of trails we will stick together and or stop to regroup at every junction (and there are a lot).

We will be hiking roughly 1.5 to 2 miles per hour with stops to appreciate all the moss, lichen, trees and fungi in this marvelous  set aside piece of land. This is a mixed use trail so we may see horses or bikes as a part of this (although I usually don't see more than 1 or 2 people.)
