Day Hike - Parkland & Spanaway

Welcome back, hiking friends! I am returning from a summertime knee injury and ready to lead some off season hikes. This is one of my favorite fall urban trips because there aren't usually a lot of park goers out, there are a lot of loop options, and it has a great variety for beginners and veteran's alike. We will hike nearly all the developed trails in Bresemann Forest and we will stop briefly at the historic dam and at the Heron Overlook. The forest can be muddy with standing water in places so choose your footwear wisely. After our time in the forest, we will cross Military Road to the south for some additional mileage on paved trails along Spanaway Lake. Ducks, geese, and herons are often seen in the lower reaches of the lake. Squirrels are frantically gathering and storing away nuts from the surrounding trees for winter too. During this time of year Pierce County is busy at work putting up the Fantasy Lights displays. Usually there are a few displays that are being worked on simultaneously. Come and see what the fuss is all about and why people wait in their cars for hours during the holidays to see these displays. You can see some of them for free on foot! 

Raven (a dog) will be hiking with us. You should be comfortable hiking with dogs  before choosing to register for this trip.

Sprinker Recreation Center Bresemann Forest Entrance at 9am.
