Day Hike - Rampart Ridge Loop

This loop begins with the Wonderland Trail out of Longmire, then coming back on the Rampart Ridge Trail which eventually breaks out of the forest revealing a breathtaking view of Mount Rainier. On the return we’ll take the Trail of the Shadows interpretive trail that makes a .7 mile loop around a wetland, hot springs and replica of James Longmire’s cabin, for a 5.2 mile hike in total.

This hike was open (clear of snow) at the time of posting, per Mt. Rainier National Park website.  Be sure to be prepared for cold and/or wet weather with rain gear, extra clothes, stocking hats/beanies, extra gloves, etc.  Also headlamp and/or flashlight since it is getting darker sooner.  Trekking poles recommended.

As always: The trip could be cancelled or moved if weather or trail conditions are unsafe on the trip date, including snow/ice covering the trails or forecasts indicating a high chance of snow.

For carpooling: Meet at 8am at the Auburn Park & Ride, 101 15th NE St, Auburn, WA 98002.  Everyone is encouraged to organize carpooling as we get closer to the hike date, the parking at Longmire may fill up.

For meeting at the trailhead (a National Park Service Pass is required for each vehicle entering Mt. Rainier National Park):  Meet at 9:30 am at Longmire, WA by the Wilderness Information Center.
