Day Hike - Mount Teneriffe

This is a long, but diverse and interesting hike of one of Mt. Si's neighbors. Weather permitting, there are some great 360 degree views from the summit. This is a great stand-alone day hike or a great conditioner. Depending on weather and or trail conditions, we will have a few options to incorporate or divert to as required.

  • Very Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 14.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,800 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 4,585 ft
  • Pace: 1.7-2.2 mph

Meet and assemble at Mt. Si main trailhead (near the sign by the pit toilets) at  7:45 AM.   Brief introductions and trip review and depart by 8:00 AM.  We will hike up the Mt. Si main trail to the Talus loop connector and veer to the right (east) to the main Mt. Teneriffe trail.  From there, we will take the Mt. Teneriffe trail to the summit.  This is NOT a snowshoeing trip, so per The Mountaineers standard's, should we run into snow that is beyond mid-calf/below the knee, we will turn around.

Trip open to all branches and eligible members.  Recommend better than average physical conditioning.  Also recommend not carrying  greater than 30 lbs./20% of  your body weight without submitting prior experience and details with your request to register.  This is not a hike recommended for beginners.  The pace is listed as 1.7-2.2 mph, but we will adjust to trail/snow conditions and a pace that allows conversations.   Well broken-in hiking boots or mountaineering boots required.   Micro-spikes strongly encouraged and trekking pole(s) advised.  Should the weather and or trail conditions work against us, we will discuss  and agree to alternatives as a group, such as diverting to the Mt. Si connector, instead of the summit (for example).    Other than personal bio-breaks, we will stay together as a group within speaking distance of one another.  Plan would be to spend approx. 30 min. at the summit to take in the views, rest, and enjoy a snack, prior to descending.
