The plan is to be ready to hike at 10:00 am, give introductions then hike up to Hugo Peak. We will have lunch and a short break and return or decide to proceed to a beautiful Rainier view point.

Hugo Peak is a decent ascent (1100') through the forest but does not boast a grand view as a reward at the end. Depending on the group's decision at lunch we might add the additional 2 miles with minimal elevation gain (400') across Kirkland Pass to a Rainier vista view point only if the day allows for a view.

Either path, short to just Hugo Peak (5 mi RT) or longer to the Rainier View Vista (8 mi RT) we will be back at the car around 2-3 pm.

Additional Items to Consider:

-Bring an extra snack and adequate water if we decide to add the few extra miles.

-The addition of trekking poles would be good for muddy, rocky, blow downs and steep areas often encountered here.

-If it has been icy or snowy, extra shoe traction might be helpful as Hugo Peak is 1745' elevation where foothill snow often lingers.

We will meet at 10:00 am ready to go at the TH for Hugo Peak which is located at the gate house at the entrance to Pack Forest on Hwy 7 in Eatonville. Parking is limited at the TH so carpooling is encouraged. Additional parking can be found in the adjacent parking lot for trailers just past the TH about 1/4 mile to the left from the entrance. Please give yourself a bit more time to find parking and allow for the  additional time to walk back to the TH.

Directions: Drive Hwy 161 to Eatonville. Make a right at the traffic light and proceed one block. Make a left onto Mashell Ave and follow Mashell Ave/Hwy 161 for three miles to stop sign. Turn left onto Hwy 7. The entrance to UW Pack Forest is .3 miles down Hwy 7 on the left. The trailhead for Hugo Peak is at the entrance.

Portable bathrooms are located at the Pack Forest conference center parking .5 from the entrance.
