This beautiful and popular trail offers  rocky, open terrain with views  and multiple different habitats  for alpine wildflowers. An optional side trip to Dewey Lakes adds 3 miles and 600 ft of elevation gain to the classic loop but the descent leads to a cooler, shadier environment for comparison. Without the side trip to Dewey Lake the distance is 3.2.miles, with 600 ft of elevation gain. Since this is a loop trip participants must be able to hike at least this distance, at an altitude of about 6000 ft.

This is a Naturalist trip, so expect frequent stops and discussions and a slow pace for at least the first half of the day.....and probably longer, given that it is a loop trip. Bring lots of food and water!  And your camera or equivalent.

This outing meets requirements for Field Trip-4 of the Seattle Introduction to the Natural World 2022 course (email me ahead of opening of registration). Others are welcome to take remaining spots when registration opens.

Meet at 8:30 am at the Tipsoo Lake Comfort Station, the easiest place for a break and decision where to park and start the loop. Hello Hiker message prior to the trip will help with carpooling.
