South Coldwater Ridge

Trip

Day Hike - Coldwater Ridge to Coldwater Peak Saddle

Coldwater Ridge trail to Coldwater Peak. Flowers, volcano views and hiking in the blast zone. 1 mile road walk to access the trailhead.

  • Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 13.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,500 ft
  • Pace: 2 mph on average, slower on steep stuff

0830 at the Hummocks trailhead.

My goals for this trip are as follows:

1. Be safe.

2. Make it to the top of Coldwater Peak.

3. Learn something

My expectations for trip participants are as follows:

1. Practice Leave No Trace principles.

2. Be respectful of other participants.

3. No cotton clothing. Microspikes required for safety.

4. Have the physical conditioning necessary for this hike. This hike is exposed with very little in the way of shade. There is steady uphill travel and some steep, exposed slopes to traverse.

Things to consider when signing up for this hike:

1. It is a long drive from Seattle area but all on paved roads.

2. The hike is within the blast zone so there is very little in the way of shade. If it's sunny out it will be an exposed, hot hike. You will need to carry all your water as there is no source for filtering.

3. The road is gated 1 mile before the Coldwater ridge trailhead, so we will have to hike the road to reach the trailhead.
