This is a midweek hike that is fairly moderate, intended for regular hikers or those training for backpacking, scrambling, etc. You must be a Mountaineers member to sign up.
I will contact you if you do not have recent hikes on your activity history, to check for fitness.
Expectations are to be on time, have the required gear, stay together or hike ahead then regroup at trail junctions, be comfortable with the pace, mileage and elevation gain.
Weather and trail conditions should be good, but this will be updated in pre-trip email.
If you want additional challenge, you could carry more weight for all or part of the hike.
We'll first hike to the top of Cedar Butte, which is a pleasant short hike of around 1000 ft gain. Then we'll hike over to Rattlesnake Ledges trail, passing by our cars on the way. We'll hike up to the first, second, and third ledges, gaining around 1600 ft, before having a 15-20 minute lunch break and returning to cars.
I like to hike steadily. But we will take a few strategic breaks (clothing, viewpoints, lunch, regrouping if necessary, etc)
I expect that we will finish the hike around early to mid afternoon.
Meet at the trailhead for Palouse to Cascades Trail at 8 a.m.. To get there from I-90 Eastbound, take exit 32 at North Bend and turn right (south). Go several miles up a winding road. Do not turn into the Rattlesnake Lake parking areas. A bit further, turn left at the Palouse to Cascade Trail sign. Pass by the lower lot then turn right into the next parking lot. There is a toilet at the parking lot. Discover Pass required. More details will be emailed to participants.
